It’s finally time to dust off your spring lightweight outerwear but while cozy coats are alluring for winter, there is nothing attractive about looking like a puffy blob during the colder spring days. This season borrow a tip from the most important designers and cinch your outerwear layers with a belt. Be it skinny, studded or silk, this wardrobe staple adds interest to your outfit while also highlighting your figure, so what’s not to love?

You may think that it superficially resembles the gown that you bundle on when you stumble out of bed in the morning or the garment that you take to the shower, but we’d like to respectfully point out that you’re mistaken. Take a second look – its long silhouette makes it way more elegant than that, and as for style, you’ll have no trouble in finding your perfect partner for spring days. Just look to the runways for inspiration.

Here’s a classic belted coat: the belt comprises the same fabrication and color of the coat, and you simply tie it around your waist, with a slight tail hanging down at the center. If you’re feeling a little bit more off-beat, you can tie it with the tail at the back, or slightly off-center. Some come sans zippers and buttons, wearing like a robe, while others add a belt for purely stylistic purposes. Whatever your taste, there’s one out there for you.
